DESCRIPTION:As a secondary literacy specialist\, and middle & high school English teacher I understand the demands of curriculum maps and pacing guides as well as the challenges of inheriting struggling adolescent readers in a tier 1 classroom. I've done the work and can model and explain how it can be done. This session stands out because it tackles a critical—but often neglected—component of adolescent literacy: oral reading fluency in secondary classrooms. While fluency is widely emphasized in elementary settings\, many middle and high school educators assume it is either already mastered or only relevant for struggling readers. This session challenges that misconception by clearly connecting oral reading fluency to comprehension\, confidence\, and academic success across all content areas. What makes this session especially compelling is its practical\, cross-curricular focus. The tool\, called SageModeler\, is a systems dynamics modeling platform that has been shown to support students in making sense of complex scientific phenomena while applying systems thinking. Many contemporary issues in Wyoming require scientific knowledge to inform social decisions. DESCRIPTION:"Principal Self Care/ Special Education for Principals" I've been a principal in Wyoming for over 20 years- now admin. Mostly in schools serving high risk students. I've helped alot of principals in my years. The list of folks on that list that have stuck with the profession for more than a few years is short. For special education - coming into the sped dir role after 20 years of principal experience really enlightened me real quick as to the key things principals really need to know about sped. I came into a situation where I was hit with 8 state complaints and a due process hearing over the course of two years- all from one parent. I managed to help the district come out ahead with all of these. What I learned from them all could really help principals and sped directors. "Implementing the Wyoming Language and Literacy Program: A Roadmap for K-12 Success" SF 0059 became Wyoming law this past legislative session. How will schools and districts know what to do and implement the mandate with effectiveness and efficiency? I will provide a breakdown of the components of SF 0059 and provide timelines and requirements that the bill mandates. I will also provide an overview to give clarity on universal screeners and the MTSS to form collective efficacy and give administrators a toolkit of ways they can start off on the right step beginning July 1\, 2026 when the bill takes effect.

This session will propose a “user-friendly” method for understanding the rules of disciplinary removals under IDEA\, both short-term and long-term\, as well as potential exceptions for in-school suspension and the treatment of special offenses\, such as drugs and weapons. In addition\, the session will address alternatives to home suspension and the do’s and don’ts of manifestation determination reviews (MDRs)\, including a workable MDR process\, helpful and not helpful questions\, and problems that can arise in situations of failure to implement IEP behavioral interventions.

DESCRIPTION:How does the literal structure of Arithmetic inform Teachers' methods of teaching? What is the literal structure of Arithmetic? How does that help students understand not just basic Mathematics\, but some higher level Maths? How can we make the structure of Arithmetic understandable to the Teachers\, show that they can make it understandable to the Students? Many people approach Mathematics as a set of rules that need to be memorized. Having a clear understanding of why the "Rules" of Exponents work\, because of how they are ties to Multiplication\; and why Multiplication works\, because it is ties to Addition\; and why Addition works because it is tied to Counting\, and Counting is where Arithmetic starts: explains the how one builds to the next in a logical order fashion- the structure of Arithmetic. It is an opportunity to review things that Teachers understand\, and show how they connect\, as well as learning a few things not usually taught in the many college courses we endured to become educators. Most importantly\, it has a visual\, potentially hands on approach\, we can use with students from Counting to Quantities to help them understand Mathematics.
